Sandi Sylver: Storyteller-Ventriloquist-Songstress
"The Girls"
My puppet family tend to bring the house down, and, of course, I don't have a favorite!
"TOODLES"
She's "six-with-attitude" and the "closer" of each show. "Toodles" is famous for her jokes and riddles, let alone her interactive stories.
She is usually the puppet that teaches the audience the basics of ventriloquism (when it's appropriate), and stays after the show to give and receive hugs and high-fives (when time and the occasion allows).
Being a fashion diva, "Toodles" has different outfits, each to compliment the story she will tell in a particular show. Her two "absolute favorites" are her Dora outfit (with light-up sandals), and her "Book Island" two-piece bathing suit and hula skirt ensemble!
"MRS. IDA KNOW-WHY"
"MRS. ADELIA ROSE HONEYCUTT, OF THE ATLANTA, GEORGIA, HONEYCUTTS"
These two ladies, with thick Southern drawls, are one and the same puppet.
For younger children, "Mrs. Ida Know-Why" is the little old lady who swallowed a fly, and does! We all participate in the telling and singing of the story, and "Mrs. Ida" consumes all of the critters, which disappear into her mouth and are gone! But, we don't sing "perhaps she'll die", instead substituting "oh me, oh my", as no one dies in my stories!
For older children and adults, "Mrs. Adelia Rose" prattles on and on and on, basically philosophizing, pontificating, and whining!
"SHARI CARY, FROM, LIKE, LONG GYLAND, LIKE, IN NEW YAWK"
The teenager in the family, "Shari Cary" is named in honor of Shari Lewis, the ventriloquist I adored as a child.
"Shari Cary" is a caricature of the self-absorbed 13-year old, with the attitude and speaking manner than can drive one up a wall! She thinks she's entitled to anything and everything, and always refers to me as "the driver who gets her to her shows". She likes to rap and let everyone know that while "Toodles" is the current "Star" of the show, it won't be for long!
