Sandi Sylver: Storyteller-Ventriloquist-Songstress
ELEMENTARY SCHOOL SHOWS
My performances are extremely popular, not only for auditorium presentations during the school day, but for Family Reading Night shows and other special evening events at schools.
Having self-taught myself ventriloquism from a library book, I usually finish every school show with a short ventriloquism lesson!
For "Family Reading Night", "Author's Night", and "Family Book Fair" events, I always perform at least one story that I have written, as well as one story I've adapted from a library book (the family can check out the book, if they'd like, and enjoy it at home).
At least two of my three puppets perform at every show, regardless of the program theme, and, of course, there is always a song or two to compliment a story.
"Character Counts" is a theme that runs through just about all of my material, be it in bold or subtle ways. My repertoire consists of original stories, true stories, tall tales, folk tales and world tales.
Although I do not speak Spanish, I presently have in my repertoire, two bilingual stories that I have learned with the help of a Spanish speaking friend.
Shows can be either theme specific or eclectic; the material is always entertaining, with cleverness, humor and humanity.
